A Cry In The Night Mary Higgins Clark 9780671886660 Books
This was not Mary Higgins Clark at her best. I don't ever remember giving her books less than 5 stars as she usually grabs me from the beginning and keeps me guessing the whole book. In this book I found her main character to be so unbelievable for a modern day woman who was living and working in New York. I wanted to slap Jenny for her ridiculous and unbelievable choices she made from the beginning. Eric's obsession with Jenny from the very first was obviously because he had a sick attachment to his mother. Once they got to his home, it became downright creepy and I cannot believe she would have stayed there as long as she did. And it wasn't because she loved him because she began to have doubts about him almost immediately ... she just wouldn't act on them and kept on acting like a helpless woman from the 1800's. I guessed all the plots and subplots before they even came up and predicted almost everything down to the very end. I did read it all the way to the end because I kept hoping she would redeem herself somewhere along the way, but it didn't really happen for me. I even figured out the discovery about him in the end. I was so disappointed with this book and I have loved her other books dearly. I really hope this was just a rare off book for her and not a trend downwards. I'll still be anxious and ready to read her next one.

I have read Mary Higgins Clark for many, many years and loved how she got you involved with her characters and kept you guessing and on edge. But I found as time went on started to become disappointed with her books, I don't know if she was putting out to many or what it was, but to me she had lost her edge. This is not the case with the one, I liked her characters and once i was half way through the book I could not put it down.
If you want a good, suspenseful read, this is it.
MHC always writes such intriguing, suspenseful novels. Once I start one of her books I can’t put it down. Consequently I don’t getting anything done and lose lots of sleep til it’s finished!!
Have read most of Mary's books, but started to get tired of them because there were always so many characters and when I had to write each one down on a piece of paper with a description of them so I would know who I was reading about when I would get to that character again, I decided, 'that's enough of this'...when I have to write character's names down, it's time to find a new author!!! So I have been reading books by other author's for several years now, but when I read the synopsis on this book and the reviews, I decided to give Mary another try. And what a pleasant surprise I had in store for me! I loved the book from beginning to end, stayed up til 5AM to finish it on my Fire, which I also LOVE. I read 3 more of Mary's books after that, enjoyed them tremendously, and had absolutely no problem keeping the character's straight! Now, I keep watching for a new book by her to miraculously appear cuz Mary, I'm back!!!! Thank you for the wonderful page turning entertainment!!!
This was my first reading of a Mary Higgins Clark novel and I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased with the mature and developed writing style of the author as she keeps the story moving right along, tripping you up just as you think you have things figured out. I've heard her name seemingly all my life so I thought to give her a try. I researched her a little and discovered a real woman who loves her work and can't stop. I'm glad. I hope to read more of her as my remaining time permits. Life grows shorter and we must choose wisely.
A Cry in the Night is exactly that, a woman who becomes trapped by what she thought she wanted.
My favorite author once again proved why. Mystery you won't figure out to the very end. More twists than one can dream of, but Clark does it so good you are just mesmerized
This story will keep you guessing, wondering what will happen next. One minute you think you know the next, maybe not. You can see the characters and landscape in your mind. This is one of my favorites by this author.
She really is the, "Queen of Suspense" I was on the edge of my seat. I love the way she describes things it's as if you're there. People's thoughts and feelings and also their surroundings. If they're in a room I feel like I'm in the room too, if they're watching a sunset I feel I'm able to experience it as the character does.
